Why Restu Bahagia

A quiet office. A careful approach.

We listen first

Every situation is heard without rush. We ask before we advise, because the details that feel small to an outsider often matter most.

Malaysian law, clearly explained

We translate the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act and related legislation into plain language you can carry home and think on.

Written summaries after every session

You receive a written record of what was discussed and what was agreed. Nothing is left hanging in memory.

Mediation where possible

Where an agreed resolution is within reach, we coordinate with experienced family mediators rather than escalating to contest.

Rooted in Sabah

Based in Kota Kinabalu, we understand the local courts, the local community, and the cultural textures that shape family life here.

No pressure, no rush

Clients are given time to sit with each draft and each decision. We sequence the work at a pace that leaves room for reflection.

Ready when you are

A first conversation costs nothing but time.

Questions We Often Hear

Some answers, set down quietly

What happens during an initial advisory session?
We begin by listening. You share what you are facing in your own words, and we ask only enough to understand the situation. From there we explain the legal framework that applies, walk through the realistic range of outcomes, and note what documentation would likely be needed. You leave with a written one-page summary.
How long does custody drafting typically take?
The timeline varies depending on how much the parents have already discussed and how straightforward the circumstances are. A first draft is usually ready within two to three weeks of the initial consultation. Where mediation is part of the process, additional time is factored in accordingly.
Do you handle matters for both Muslim and non-Muslim families?
Our civil family law services are for non-Muslim families governed by the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976. For Muslim family matters, which fall under Syariah jurisdiction, we can point you towards appropriate referrals in Sabah.
Are the fees quoted inclusive of court filing charges?
The advisory and drafting fees are for professional services. Court filing fees and disbursements — where applicable — are separate and will be itemised clearly before any filing takes place. Nothing is charged without your prior knowledge.
Can I contact the firm before deciding to make an appointment?
Yes. You are welcome to call or send a message through the contact form below. If you are not ready to discuss specifics, simply let us know you would like to know more about how we work, and we will respond accordingly, without pressure.
