Client Experiences
Words from families
we have walked alongside.
These are notes left by clients who came to us at difficult moments. Their situations were their own; the care we brought to each one was the same.

A guestbook of sorts
I came in not knowing what to expect. The session on child maintenance felt more like a careful conversation than a legal appointment β my adviser listened before saying anything, and the written summary she gave me afterwards was something I kept returning to. I did not feel rushed.
The custody drafting service was thorough in a way I had not anticipated. We were asked to think through things I had not considered β school pickup arrangements, Chinese New Year visits, what would happen if one parent needed to travel for work. The final arrangement held up because it had been properly thought through.
I had been putting off dealing with the divorce papers for over a year because I did not know where to start. Restu Bahagia made it manageable β we went through it piece by piece, and I was never made to feel that I was holding things up by asking to slow down. Everything was explained properly.
I was concerned that the process would be adversarial and stressful for the children. The approach here was very different β the adviser helped us focus on what the arrangements needed to look like for the children's daily lives rather than on what each parent wanted to win. That framing made a real difference.
The fee was clear from the beginning, which I appreciated. I had spoken to another firm where costs were vague and kept expanding. Here I knew what I was paying and what it covered. The work was completed within the timeline I was given.
The comprehensive settlement covered everything in one engagement β including the EPF nomination update and an adjusted will, which I had not even thought to raise. Having those organised at the same time as the main proceedings meant I did not have loose ends to deal with months later.
Case Studies
A few situations, briefly described
Details have been generalised to protect the privacy of those involved.
A maintenance dispute where one parent lived abroad
The situation
One parent had relocated overseas for work. The remaining parent was uncertain about how maintenance could be calculated and enforced given the cross-border element.
What we did
We provided a maintenance advisory session addressing the cross-border dimension, explaining how Malaysian courts approach such situations and what documentation would be needed from the overseas parent.
The result
The client left with a written summary and a clear list of documents to gather. A negotiated maintenance arrangement was reached without court proceedings within six weeks.
"I had been anxious about this for months. One session made it much clearer." β Client, Kota Kinabalu, March 2025
A custody arrangement for two school-age children
The situation
Both parents had separated and wanted to reach a custody agreement without going to court. Their children attended different schools and had varied weekend commitments, making scheduling complicated.
What we did
We drafted a detailed custody and access arrangement covering term time, school holidays, religious celebrations, and extracurricular activity days. A family mediator was coordinated to facilitate one session where the parents worked through a point of disagreement.
The result
A workable arrangement was agreed and signed within five weeks. The parents reported that the schedule had held through the first school term without significant disputes.
"The mediator session helped us move past one sticking point. We would not have reached agreement without it." β Client, Penampang, February 2025
A full settlement following a long separation
The situation
A couple had been living separately for several years without formalising any legal arrangements. Both parties wanted to proceed with divorce, financial settlement, and parenting arrangements β and wanted it handled in one coordinated process.
What we did
We managed the Comprehensive Family Settlement Package in stages β divorce filing, property settlement, parenting arrangement, and finally the EPF nomination and will updates. Each draft was reviewed and agreed before proceeding to the next.
The result
The full process was completed in eleven weeks. Both parties signed all documents in a final session and confirmed that nothing had been left unaddressed.
"Having the EPF and will sorted at the same time saved me from having to start over with another adviser later." β Client, Kota Kinabalu, April 2025
